The freedom of choice afforded mortal beings requires certain
limitations on the actions of individuals. To protect the whole of mankind, the individual part must be somewhat limited to
an arena of choice. The limitations imposed are based mostly on relationships between time and space, like not being able
to be in two places at once, or to travel in time. These speed and location “governors” function as a brake
on over-accelerated rates of change, and stabilize otherwise dangerous situations.
The governors guarantee eventual self-regulation and self-government
by preventing individuals from taking unfair advantage over the group. The survival requirements of food, defense, shelter,
etc. cause individuals or cooperative groups (families, nations) to engage in activities that require significant amounts
of time and space, and therefore, the energies of life. Time left over is available for leisure, but only after the crucial
requirements are met. This forces wise individuals to use their leisure time wisely to acquire more.
The battle for extra time to do the things one wants is a matter
of balancing self-liberty and self-control. Societies that promote apathy and mediocrity eventually stagnate and die. Those
that promote unchecked individualism move too quickly into unchartered territory and fail or end up in rebellion.
The only truly appropriate time perspective is that of the now
- recognition of, respect for, and life in, the eternal, everlasting now.
The irrational mathematical constant “e”
governs rate of change. Fibonacci proportions rule the frequency of change. The "Time Governor” could be a term
indicative of the action of all the transcendental irrational numbers like e, pi, and the √-1, which control, regulate,
and modulate the rates things can grow, cycle, or change without disruption or stagnation.
Reminder: Irrational numbers are numbers that cannot be expressed as fractions with whole
numbers. They are generally roots (such as the square root of two) or constants (such as pi and e). They cannot be completely,
exactly expressed as decimal numbers because they never terminate (end) or repeat themselves.
